Featuring Workshops from some of Lethbridge's finest working songwriters including @skinnydyck @joeltstretch from @starpainterband, @baileykate03, @_ali_cat_ from @__badlands__, and many many more!
This songwriting camp will allow youth ages 12-18 to develop and improve the basics and finer features of songwriting. It will provide a stimulating creative space for those interested in music and songwriting. This weekend long camp is about communication; expressing musical ideas to fellow musicians, learning to create complimentary melodies, sounds and rhythms through improvisation. We will work on creating something 'new' in solo and group settings.
This beginner to intermediate camp will focus on popular music of all commercial styles rock, pop, country, improvisation and creativity. It will offer practical, audio and performance opportunities with an emphasis on the current day music scene. Attendees should have some familiarity with their chosen instrument as there will not be an instrument learning component and is focused on the craft of songwriting.
FORMAT:
In the morning sessions we will discuss many different songwriting methods by the mentors of the camp. We will deep dive into individual songs and explain the processes behind the stories, and how we develop and create melodies to achieve desired mood and styles of music.
In the afternoon, students will be divided into different mixed instrument groups to be introduced to co-writing techniques. Afternoon groups will be divided by age and skill level. Groups will be consistent throughout the weekend.
