September is upon us, and the main programming events for Lethbridge Public Library’s annual The Word On The Street Festival are happening next week! The festival will be at the Main Branch on Saturday, September 23, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.This year marks the Library’s thirteenth year hosting its annual award-winning literary event, and we’re happy to bring this annual celebration of literacy, storytelling, and the literary arts to our community. “We’ve got another exciting line-up of truly excellent presenters and activities again this year,” says Elisabeth Hegerat, festival organizer and Manager: Community Advancement at Lethbridge Public Library.Authors for adults, kids and teens will be coming from across Canada, as well as live music, food trucks, workshops and panels. The Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge is joining us this year with art demonstrations, collaborative community art projects, and face painting all day. Highlights include longtime prairie poet Sid Marty, nonfiction author John Vaillant writing on the Fort McMurray wildfire, Indigenous journalist Angela Sterritt, local artist and picture book author Hali Heavy Shield, middle-grade fantasy author Kevin Sands, and best-selling literary author Anne-Marie MacDonald.Festival presenters include:Lethbridge Herald Author Stage: Sid Marty, John Vaillant, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Angela Sterritt, Tara MacLean, and Twyla Campbell.Canadian Heritage Author Stage: David Norwell, Ali Bryan, Jane Marshall, Philipp Schott, Laura Trethewey, and Dominique Prinet.Words in Motion Stage: Publishing Pointers with Jane Marshall, Freehand Books, and Ali Bryan, Playwriting with New West Theatre, Oral Storytelling with Ginger Mullen, Co-Writing with Eric Walters and Paul Coccia, Food Writing, and Writers at the Improv.Teen Zone Stage: Eric Walters, Paul Coccia, Farah Heron, Kate Leth, Ryan North, and a Teen Writing Contest.Kids’ Zone Stage: Jenna Greene, Hali Heavy Shield, Arnolda Dufour Bowes, Sara Truuvert, Michelle Kadarusman, and Kevin Sands.Piitoyiss Stage: Christina Fox, Diana Frost, Karen Pheasant-Neganigwane, Shirley Hill, Arnolda Dufour Bowes, and Chataya Holy Singer.The University of Lethbridge Bookstore will be onsite with a selection of books by presenting authors on Saturday, September 23.The Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library will also be onsite selling a selection of junior, young adult, and adult fiction at bargain prices!Sign language interpretation will also be provided for some events during the festival.
